The Lone Eagle, An American Aviator
In 1927 Charles Lindbergh became the first man to fly nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. His motivation for this flight came from the Orteig Prize. Orteig was a rich hotelier in New York City, he offered $25,000 to the first person to fly from New York to Paris. The contest had been around for about a decade before Lindbergh accomplished it. Many other aviators had attempted the contest but no one had succeeded. Pilots crashed from sleep deprivation, engine failure, some were left without fuel. One pair was even spotted over the Atlantic from New York, but the two were never seen again after the sighting.
Charles Lindbergh's story is very important to San Diego history. Ryan Aeronautical, the company that fabricated the plane was located where Solar Turbine is today, they still have a few hangers left to this day. Lindbergh's name is also very common in San Diego because after he completed the flight he became an instant hero worldwide. Upon Lindbergh's return to San Diego, the city renamed the international airport, Lindbergh Field.

Special Thanks
This podcast would have never been possible without the help of a few professionals in our community. These individuals took time out of their busy schedules to participate in interviews with us in order to deepen our understanding of Charles Lindbergh and The Spirit of St. Louis
San Diego Air And Space Museum- Terry Brennan is the current curator of the museum. Terry Brennan was involved in the construction of the Spirit of St. Louis, this gives him a very detailed understanding of the technologies implemented in the design. Terry Brennan was a valuable resource for our project. San Diego Historical Society- Gabe Selak works to inform people about San Diego's rich history. Unfortunately the audio quality was not good enough to use in our podcast, but Gabe Selak provided important information we used in the story. |

Project Reflection
Through this project I have learned a wide range of important skills. I have learned everything from learning how to compose a professional sounding podcast all the way to learning about interviews and communication skills. We had some bad luck during this project, we moved our project from one computer to the other because there were problems with the computers. This serious problem put us about a week behind everyone else, but I am proud that in the end we still finished the same time as the rest.
I enjoyed that we could compose a podcast on the topic of our choice. My partners and I had a very deep interest in aviation and enjoyed researching and composing a podcast about the topic. I hope that our podcast is listened to by members of the San Diego community and informs them of their city's lesser know history.
